'Kidnapped' salesman apologises for wasting police time

Shane Ram­jat­tan has been fined $600 and giv­en sev­en days to pay or serve two months in prison.

He ap­peared be­fore Se­nior Mag­is­trate Rae Roopc­hand in the Rio Claro Mag­is­trate's First court charged with waste­ful em­ploy­ment of po­lice time by mak­ing a false re­port to con­sta­ble Ma­jid Khan that he was kid­napped on Jan­u­ary 15 at Bar­rack­pore and kept in a forest­ed area against his will.


Ram­jat­tan apol­o­gised in open court to every­one in the coun­try for his ac­tions.

The sales­man ad­mit­ted that he gam­bled away the day's sales and was afraid to face his em­ploy­er.

Last week, po­lice launched a mas­sive search for the 24-year-old af­ter he was re­port­ed miss­ing.

He emerged three days lat­er claim­ing that he was kid­napped and de­tailed an or­deal which in­volved him be­ing tak­en to out to sea by Span­ish speak­ing men.
