Residents of Seebalack Trace, Rochard Road, Penal, who have been under siege by locusts since last week, got some relief yesterday.
They said workers from the Penal/Debe Regional Corporation sprayed the area and the locusts went away. They are praying that the insects, which have caused a lot of destruction to their plants and crops over the last week, do not return.
The locusts invaded the area last Thursday forcing residents to lock themselves in their homes.
They complained to Guardian Media on Wednesday that their pleas for help at the Ministry of Agriculture office in Penal had fallen on deaf ears.
Resident Tara Laloo said when she returned home yesterday afternoon a neighbour told her that the area was sprayed. “I have not seen any since I came back home. I am hoping that they do not come back.”
Last year the residents also faced a similar problem with the locusts.
