Machel Montano on "dead" Power Soca

Thursday, January 14, 2016 - 20:00

Expect to see Machel Montano on the Soca Monarch stage this year. And he will be a guest.

As the only person to win the Power Soca crown since he took "Advantage" of the stage in 2011 (five straight from 2011-2015), Montano will not outrightly say that Power Soca is dead or dying.

He prefers to see it as an evolution.

Montano was asked to comment on the controversy created recently when a female soca artiste lashed out about those calling Power Soca music "dead".

In an interview with Hema Ramkissoon on The Morning Brew Friday morning he gave his thoughts about the state of power soca music. [SEE VIDEO CLIP BELOW] and [FULL INTERVIEW:]

Montano says that as far as he sees it, everything has a lifespan.

"Sometimes you need regeneration and reinvention. I am reinventing who I am. I wouldn't use the word 'dead' as though dead is something bad. Dying is part of being reborn," he said.
