The United National Congress has appointed attorney-at-law Ashvani Mahabir as its new Opposition Senator following the resignation of Gerald Ramdeen.
In a statement the UNC says Mahabir, who is also a communications consultant, has been appointed to its team of senators.
It goes on to say that Mahabir, has a long-standing relationship with the unc having served as youth arm chairman and working in various capacities in research as well as political and strategic communication over the years.
Ramdeen tendered his resignation as an Opposition Senator after he appeared in court last week on corruption charges.
He had been a UNC senator since 2016.
