Dominic Guevarra is expected to appear in court today charged with the murder of his wife, more than a year after she was shot and killed.
The 42-year-old man was recently discharged from the Port of Spain General Hospital after nursing a shotgun wound to his face.
Investigators were unable to interrogate the man while he was warded. Upon his release, he was subsequently taken into custody at the St Joseph police station where he was questioned about Margaret Ragoobar-Guevarra's killing by homicide officers.
On Wednesday, acting on advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard, Guevarra was charged with the murder of his wife.
Last February the mother of five got into an altercation with Guevarra who grabbed his shotgun and fired upon her.
He then placed the rifle to his jaw and pulled the trigger.
On arrival, police took the injured man to the hospital where he was placed under police guard.
