A 28-year-old port worker, who was detained for questioning in connection with the disappearance of a pregnant woman, Shanice Cooper, has been sent to the St Ann’s Mental Hospital for evaluation. Police said the man, a close male relative of Cooper’s, was taken into custody earlier this week.
Cooper, 30, was last seen on August 28. She is seven months pregnant. Her cellphone was found near a car wash in Woodbrook last week and the relative’s number was shown as the last number she had contacted.
The relative was detained by police on Monday at his workplace at the Port-of-Spain Port.
Officers of the Anti Kidnapping Unit who questioned him said he exhibited “symptoms of mental illness” and was taken to the St Ann’s Hospital where he is currently warded under heavy police guard.
Cooper’s was last seen on August when left for work at the Port and was heard on the phone telling someone to pick her up at a gas station close to where she lives.
