A 29-year-old man has been arrested for possession of close to $50,000 in marijuana.
It occurred during a series of police operations yesterday, outlined in the following police report:
"Port of Spain Division – firearm, ammunition seized
Between the hours of 9:00am and 11:15pm on Wednesday 15th June, 2016, Ag. Inspector Gokool, Sgt. Steel, Cpl. Solomon, along with a party of officers attached to the Police K9 Branch, Inter-Agency Task Force Fort Chacon Base, Duncan Street Post, Strike Team and Operation H.O.P.E. conducted several anti-crime exercises in the Laventille and San Juan districts.
During the exercises, 2 Fixed Penalty Notices were issued, 68 Field Interviews were conducted, 1 warrant was executed and 3 persons were arrested for various offences which included possession of marijuana and loitering. Officers also found and seized 1 Pistol, 1 M.P. 5, 1 firearm magazine and 10 rounds 9mm ammunition and a plastic bag containing a quantity of marijuana. No one was arrested. PC Boodhoo and PC Billingy are continuing investigations.
Eastern Division – narcotics seized
Between the hours of 11:00pm on Tuesday 14th June, 2016 and Wednesday 15th June, 2016, Supt. Phillip, along with a party of officers attached to the Eastern Division Task Force and Toco Police Station, conducted an anti-crime exercise in the Toco district.
During exercise the officers had cause to stop and search the occupant of a white Nissan AD Wagon. During the search the officers found and seized 3.18 kilograms marijuana with a street value of $47,700.00. A 29 year old man of Punette Avenue, Pinto Road, Arima was arrested and charged for the offence.
South Western Division – anti-crime exercises
Between the hours of 4:00pm and 9:00pm on Wednesday 15th June, 2016, Sgt. Ramdeen along with a party of officers attached to the Siparia Police Station, South Western Division Criminal Investigations Department, DUI Unit and Task Force conducted several anti-crime exercises in the South Western Division.
During the exercises 6 Fixed Penalty Notices were issued, 10 Field Interviews and 15 Field Sobriety Tests were conducted and 1 person was arrested for driving under the influence."
