National Security Minister Edmund Dillon has told the Senate that the device found in Point Fortin today, was not a grenade but instead a cigarette lighter.
The Minister was asked to account for the discovery via a question by the Opposition.
He told the Senate he wanted to be the first to put on record that the device was not in fact a grenade.
He said it is also not true that the device was found behind the school, but rather a quarter-mile from the school.
However the Minister has commended the citizens in the area who brought it to the attention of the police, saying that this is to be encouraged - "when you see it, report it".
