The Ministry of Works and Transport is calling on citizens to avoid commute to the North Coast Road today unless absolutely necessary.

The Ministry says citizens must place their public safety first.

It says unless you are a resident in the area, you should not try to use the road until further notice due to the continuation of landslides.

The Ministry says it is maintaining one lane open at this time so motorists should expect traffic delays.

It says it continues to observe many vehicles trying to gain access along the road, which places their safety at risk and in some cases, hinders the works of Ministry officials.

The North Coast Road was once again blocked by a landslide Tuesday morning.

As contractors worked on cutting and benching the hill, as well as clearing the landslide located 200 metres before the Maracas lookout, land slippage again blocked the roadway, leaving residents and commuters stranded on either side.

Acting Works and Transport Minister and Local Government Minister Kazim Hosein says the contractors have been working on clearing the rubble since December 28th.
