A minor is among five persons expected to appear in court today on kidnapping charges.
Five persons, including a minor, are expected to appear before a Sangre Grande Magistrate today, charged with the kidnapping for ransom, of Brandon Sam, on August 23rd, 2017.
Two of the accused, DEOKUMAR LUTCHMAN, 39, a contractor, of Brierly Street, Sangre Grande and a teenager, are known to the victim.
These two accused had falsely claimed they had been kidnapped, along with Brandon, around 8:00pm on Wednesday 23rd August, 2017, at Non Pareil Road, Sangre Grande.
The other accused BISSESSAR ARJOON, 52, a labourer, also of Brierly Street, and a close male relative to the victim, ASHRAF HOSEIN, 28, of Lengua, Princes Town, and NICHOLAS JAGESSAR, 28, of Kanhai Road, Barrackpore, were also charged with kidnapping for ransom, after advice was received from Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions, George Busby, on Wednesday 30th August, 2017. Brandon, 14, of Brierly Street, Sangre Grande, was reported kidnapped along with two others on Wednesday 23rd August, 2017.
One of the alleged victims claimed to have been subsequently released and a ransom demand of $350,000 was made for the safe return of Brandon and the other alleged victim, on Thursday 24th August, 2017.
The victim and a teenager were found by police wandering along Scotts Road, Penal, around 8:30pm, that same day. All five accused were charged by Cpl Randolph Castillo, of the Sangre Grande CID, on Wednesday 30th August, 2017.
