The Government, through the Estate Management and Business Development Company (EMBD), has filed claims in the court against five contractors for alleged cartel arrangements and attempt to defraud.

The contractors named in the lawsuits are TN Ramnauth and Company Limited, Mootilal Ramhit and Sons Contracting Limited, Kall Company Limited (Kallco), Namalco Construction Services Limited (Namalco) and Fides Limited (Fides).

Minister in the Office of the Attorney General Stuart Young says the claims support a conclusion of bid-rigging, collusion, conspiracy and cartel behaviour for over-inflated contracts among the five contractors with the support of former Minister of Housing, Dr Roodal Moonilal, the former CEO of EMBD, Gary Parmassar and the former Divisional Manager of EMBD, Madho Balroop.

The claims relate to $200 million in work described as “worthless” and of “no value”.
