Oropouche East MP Dr Roodal Moonilal is calling for an inquiry into the hiring of lobbyist Arthur Collins.

Addressing supporters at a UNC Monday Night Forum in Preysal, Dr Moonilal lashed out at Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley for failing to reveal the arrangement between Arthur Collins's firm, DC LLC and the government.

Moonilal is questioning whether the head of the lobbyist group may be the recipient of promises made during the 2015 general election.

He says the prime minister must clear the air on why the lobbyist was retained.

According to Dr Moonilal, members of the UNC were introduced to Collins during the lead up to the 2015 general elections but declined his services due to cost factors.

Armed with a copy of a contract between the government and lobbyist firm DC LLC, the Oropouche East MP expressed confusion over the function which was being provided.

The prime minister defended his decision to hire a lobbyist group saying the country was in a bad situation with the United States.

The cost to retain the services of the firm for a two-year period is approximately TT$16 million.
