Chaguanas Mayor Gopaul Boodhan is launching a “ name and shame” campaign against persons with unkempt properties.
Speaking with members of the media, Boodhan says he has made numerous appeals to burgesses to keep their properties clean.
According to the mayor, these lots create a breeding ground for the Aedes aegypti mosquito and rodents.
With at least one confirmed case of the Zika virus in this country, he says all efforts must be made to curb the mosquito population.
He says notices would be served on errant lot owners, and their names published in the newspapers if they fail to clean their property.
Boodhan says legal action would also be taken to recover monies spent to clear empty lots.
The mayor said he wanted to see the speedy return of litter wardens to the central borough.
