No bail for man on million-dollar cocaine charge

A 42-years-old St Helena man was denied bail after he appeared before a Tunapuna Magistrate on Tuesday, charged with possession of 2.2 kg of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

The drugs had an estimated street value of TT$1 million.

On Wednesday 21st March 2018, officers of the Praedial Larceny Squad led by Corporal Jeffers and including PC Toussaint and WPC Simon, were on mobile patrol along Freeman Road St. Augustine when at around 8:40 pm, they observed 42-year-old David Neeranjan seated in a blue Hyundai vehicle and speaking to a man on the side of the road.

As the officers approached, the man ran off and Neeranjan attempted to drive away.

However, officers blocked his exit and alighted their vehicle.

Upon searching Neeranjan's vehicle, the officers allegedly found the drugs and arrested him.

He was taken to the St. Joseph police station where he was charged by PC Toussaint for possession of cocaine, for the purpose of trafficking.

He will reappear in court on March 27th.

Meanwhile, police say they know the identity of the other man and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Neeranjan who has three court matters for similar offences was reminded of his right to apply to a judge in chambers for bail and is to reappear in court on April 11th.
