Today marks one year since 61-year-old Zorina Mahaboob “disappeared into thin air.”

Her disappearance, however, has not only left her immediate family traumatised but also the entire close-knit neighbourhood in Chase Village.

Her daughter Shairoon Rampersad is now calling on the Commissioner of Police Gary Griffith to have his officers at the Cold Case Unit to intervene as she strongly believe her mother is “alive and out there somewhere.”

“I still look formost every day I go out there and look on the streets and the malls, “ Rampersad said.

Mahaboob was well known and loved by all along the Old Southern Main Road, Chase Village as she sold bhagi on the roadside in front of her house.

Investigating police officers have seemed to reach a dead end in their investigations following the draining of a nearby pond located close to where she lived days after she went missing.

The officers at the Freeport Police Station from since Mahaboob went missing on July 3, 2018 treated the case as “very sensitive.” The “simple missing person report” was subsequently handed over to officers of the Anti Kidnapping Squad and Southern Homicide Bureau.

About one month after she went missing, investigating officers, on information received and allegations pointing to a close male relative, led them to a nearby pond in search of a body. But, after hours of draining the pond the search turned up “unsuccessful.”

Rampersad said when her mother went missing she led her own searches throughout the San Fernando Teaching Hospital where she had left that day she went missing to go clinic several times. They also combed the area in San Fernando, including by King’s Wharf and by the bus Terminal but with no luck.

An investigating officer admitted that they have had no new information on the case.

Anyone with information on Mahaboob’s case can contact the police at 555, 999, 800-TIPS (8477), 673-0026 or 482-GARY (4279).
