The North Coast Road remains impassable despite the efforts by the Ministry of Works and Transport as well as the Ministry of Agriculture's Horticultural Division to clear fallen trees blocking a section of the roadway.
At around 3 this morning heavy rains resulted in trees falling down the mountainside onto the roadway. Works Minister Rohan Sinanan told Guardian Media that efforts were made to clear at least one lane by 9.30 am.
However, at around 10.15 am the works was still incomplete. Ministry officials at the location said there were delays due to the unavailability of equipment.
At present crews are working to clear the fallen debris and also stabilize the hillside as there are signs of debris entangled in the shrubbery above.
They are also trimming away vegetation in the immediate area which they believe may cause further landslips
Officials weren't able to give an estimated time for completion of the work.
