The North West Regional Health Authority (NWRHA) is also confirming that the intern who claimed to be robbed at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, fabricated the story.
The NWRHA says normal operations continue.
The following is the NWRHA's statement.
"The North West Regional Health Authority wishes to advise that the medical intern who reported being attacked and robbed at the Port of Spain General Hospital last Sunday night has confessed to NWRHA officials that the story was fabricated.
Recognising the need to address unresolved security related concerns within the region, the Chief Executive Officer of the NWRHA held discussions with the North West Doctors’ Association (NWDA) at 10:00 am today. As a result, the association was given the assurance that supplemental security measures will be implemented to enhance the current security system to allow for the continued safety of staff in the execution of their functions.
Furthermore, the Authority wishes to advise the public that normal operations will continue at all of the region’s institutions as the association has guaranteed that no protest actions will be taken by the medical fraternity.
The NWRHA is committed to providing a safe environment for all its employees and that of its clients at the health institutions under its purview."
