One man was arrested and another later surrendered himself to police following an anti-crime exercise in the Matura district yesterday, during which two pistols and a quantity of ammunition were also seized by officers of the Sangre Grande Task Force and CID.
Officers under the supervision of Inspector Ken Lutchman and W/Sgt Alana Lopez-Carr, conducted the exercise around 9:20 am on Wednesday 10th January, 2018, during which they went to a quarry at Saunders Trace, Matura.
There they had cause to search six men who were on the compound at the time of the exercise.
The search resulted in one Glock pistol, along with 17 rounds of 9mm ammunition being discovered in the possession of a 30- year-old man of KP Lands, Valencia.
A second suspect, upon seeing the officers, dropped another Glock pistol loaded with an extended magazine containing 26 rounds of 9mm ammunition and ran off.
The suspect, a 30-year-old man of Ifill Lane, Pinto Road, Arima, subsequently surrendered himself to police.
The other four men were not detained.
