One man arrested as gun, ammo found in Tobago

A 24 year old man is scheduled to appear in the Scarborough Magistrates Court on Monday, charged for the possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The man was held during a routine exercise on Saturday afternoon.

According to Police Reports around 5:35pm on Saturday, officers attached to the Tobago Task Force were on patrol on the Windward Road, Hope Village when they observed a silver Honda CR-V motor vehicle with a lone occupant, travelling in a westerly direction.

We are told, that the occupant then looked in the direction of the marked police vehicle, quickly turned away and accelerated. Guardian Media understands that the action aroused suspicion and a chase ensued.

The man stopped a short distance away. Officers then searched the driver and the vehicle and a pink a grey bag containing a Keltec firearm, with a magazine containing four rounds of 9mm ammunition was found on the floor of the front passenger side of the vehicle.

The man, a 24 year old Labourer of Gaskin Bay Road, Bon Accord was then arrested and charged for the possession of a firearm and ammunition.

He is scheduled to appear in the Scarborough Magistrates Court on Monday.

This brings to 15 the number of guns seized in Tobago for 2019.

Investigations are continuing.
