A Venezuelan national was knocked down and killed this morning along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway in El Socorro.

Eyewitnesses said the man, identified as Jose Rafael Quintana, 51, was part of a group walking along the shoulder of the eastbound lane of the highway just before the DHL walkover at around 6.30 am when a truck swerved towards the group and struck him. He fell into a nearby drain.

A Venezuelan national who was with him said Quintana did not die immediately and he was not sure if his friend died as a result of the injuries or if he drowned in the drain.

Quintana had come to T&T to provide for his wife and two children in Venezuela.
