A 54-year-old Arima man has been sentenced to 18 months in prison with hard labour, after being found guilty by an Arima Magistrate on charges of exposing a child to pornography and engaging in a sexual activity in the presence of a child.

Clifford Llewellyn, a mechanic, of Carapo, Arima, appeared before Senior Magistrate Gillian Scotland, in the Arima 1st Magistrates’ Court, on Thursday 8th June, 2017, to answer to the charges.

He was found guilty of both offences and sentenced to six months for the first offence and 18 months for the second offence.

However, he will only serve 18 months as the sentences are to run concurrently.

Llewellyn was arrested after the parents of two children, an 8-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl, to whom he is related, reported the accused to the La Horquetta Police Station, on June 28th, 2015.

The parents claimed the accused had exposed the children to pornography and a sexual act while on a visit to his home.

Magistrate Scotland, in handing down the sentence, lamented the psychological impact such incidents have on the life of a child and the prevalence of abuse against children in the country.

Llewellyn was charged on July 3rd, 2015, by Sgt. Michelle Lewis of the Northern Division’s Child Protection Unit. His name and photo will now be entered into the Sex Offenders Register, in accordance with Part III of the Sexual Offences Act, Chapter 11:28.
