Petition launched for People's Choice Road March

An online petition has been created calling for the authorities to establish a People's Choice Award for next year's Carnival in light of Kees Dieffenthaller's Savannah Grass not winning this year's Road March title.

This year's Road March was won by the trio of Machel Montano, Bunji Garlin (Ian Alvarez) and Skinny Fabulous (Gamal Doyle) after their song Famalay was played across judging points 346 times.

Savannah Grass came second after it was played 207 times.

The online petition, however, hailed Savannah Grass as the "2019 Trinidad and Tobago Carnival People's Choice".

"Every year there is that ONE song that touches the heart and soul of the people not only in Trinidad and Tobago but throughout the world," the petition stated.

"This year that one song is undoubtedly Savannah Grass by Kes the Band".

"There is currently no official and recognised People's Choice Award, so this is a petition to give a voice to all masqueraders and non-masqueraders, to locals living in Trinidad and Tobago and abroad and to all people all over the world who love soca music," it stated.

The petition stated that Savannah Grass had won the "hearts of many".

"This year Savannah Grass has won the hearts of many and has earned the title of 2019 Trinidad and Tobago People's Choice," it stated.

The petition called all those in agreement to sign the document.

"This petition will be shared with the relevant authorities who will hopefully consider making this an official accolade for 2020 Carnival," it stated.

The deadline to sign the document is March 22.
