The People's National Movement (PNM) Women’s League has issued a statement saying it wishes to draw the country’s attention to "a disturbing trend emerging from the UNC opposition and its financiers, that is, the use of social media and dissemination of false news to attack PNM members of parliament in the most vile and personal manner".
In a statement issued today, the PNM's Women's League claims the UNC has been using the following Facebook profiles and pages to launch and maintain filthy and defamatory attacks, based on untruths and lies- "ExposeTT, KICK OUT the PNM, BuzzAlertt, Political Memes and in particular the journalist Marcia Braveboy (who Mrs Kamla Persad Bissessar recently publicly associated with and defended)".
"The PNM notes that former UNC Minister Devant Maharaj has also been participating in these cowardly and malicious acts," the statement adds.
It continues: "The Women’s League registers its strong condemnation of the abuse of social media to promote false news and outright fabrications. Personal attacks are packaged as facts and being perpetuated by the UNC and those who finance the UNC, including entities and individuals who have been, and are currently, subject to investigation for corruption."
The statement says that the PNM calls on right thinking citizens to be aware of this ploy and strategy the UNC, and those associated with the UNC, are utilizing to personally attack the Prime Minister, the Attorney General Faris Al Rawi, Ministers Colm Imbert, Shamfa Cudjoe, Darryl Smith and Stuart Young (to name a few).
"These unconscionable attacks are to be condemned. The PNM stands by its representatives and calls for the UNC opposition to cease their fake news and dirty politics," the PNM said.
