The Point Fortin Area Hospital is hoping to resume surgeries by January 2018.
For the past three months, the surgical theater has not been functioning as the operating theater lights had to be replaced.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Southwest Regional Health Authority Gail Meade told CNC3 News that the hospital is in the process of procuring those specialized lights which will have to be imported.
Meade says the hospital is predicting that the lights will arrive in January.
When asked why the long delay, the CEO said that the process to purchase equipment is a lengthy one which involves and open tendering process, evaluations and requests for approvals.
In the meantime, people who are sent to the hospital for emergency surgery are being transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital.
