Point Fortin man charged with assaulting two police officers

Akim Marcelle, 28, of Point Fortin appeared before Magistrate Rajendra Rambachan, in the Point Fortin 1st Magistrates’ Court, today charged with assaulting a police officer, preventing lawful detention, assault occasioning a wound and breach of a protection order, after being arrested by officers of the Point Fortin Police Station, on Sunday 17th June 2018.

According to police reports Marcelle was arrested after two officers; a Corporal and Woman Police Constable, responded to a report of a breach of a protection order in the district, around 3:00 pm, on Sunday 17th June 2018. 

Upon arriving on the scene, the officers observed a man holding on to a woman by the neck. 

While intervening, the officers were both assaulted and sustained injuries to various parts of their bodies.

 Marcelle, was subsequently arrested and charged by Sgt. Randy Mungroo, of the Point Fortin Police Station, on the same day. 

The matter was adjourned to Thursday 12th July 2018.
