Police arrest suspect wanted for soldier's murder

The suspect wanted in connection with the murder of a soldier and the wounding of another man in Gasparillo last week Thursday, has been arrested.

Police said in a tweet that the arrest occurred around 4:30 pm today in the Erin district.

He was held by officers of the Southern Division under Supt. Zamsheed Mohammed and the South Western Division under Snr. Supt. (Ag.) Neville Adams, with assistance from Special Branch, Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region 3, the OCIU and the SSA.

Shortly after 6pm last Thursday, 42-year-old Sergeant Ken Palmer got into an altercation with a group of men.

One of Palmer's attackers went to a home a short distance and returned with a firearm.

The man subsequently shot Palmer several times about the body.

The soldier was killed on the scene.

Another man who was hit by bullets during the fracas was taken to hospital and remains warded.

The incident took place at the home of Sgt Palmer's common-law wife along Dalloo Road, Gasparillo.
