Police Cold Case Unit charges man for 2013 murder

Five years after the murder of teenager Andre Ross, the Cold Case Unit has charged a Diego Martin man, who is scheduled to appear before a Port of Spain Magistrate today, for the offence which occurred on Friday 3rd May, 2013.

Edwin Phillip, 29, of Adam Trace, Diego Martin, was charged on Monday 16th July, 2018, following advice received from Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard, SC.

The 17-year-old victim, a welding student of the Diego Martin Police Youth Club, and a resident of Mercer Road, Diego Martin, was walking along Sierra Leone Road, Diego Martin, on Friday 3rd May, 2013, when he was approached and shot several times about the body by a man.

The victim died at the scene. Phillip was arrested by officers of the West End Police Station, whilst appearing in the Port of Spain Magistrates’ Court, on a separate matter, on Tuesday 10th July, 2018.

Investigations were supervised by ASP (Ag.) Sean Dhillpaul, Head of the Cold Case Unit, while PC Stephen Smith, of HBI Region 1, laid the charge.
