Police destroy $1.5 million in marijuana in Biche forest

Nearly $1.5 million worth of marijuana was found and destroyed by police within the Biche forest today.

Members of the Eastern Division Organised Crime, Narcotics and Firearms Bureau (OCNFB) found four marijuana fields, with approximately 10,000 fully grown trees and three racks with 80 pounds of cured marijuana during an eradication drive at 4am.

The find, which has an estimated street value of $1,490,000, was destroyed.

The exercise was incident free.

No arrests were made.

Meanwhile, police arrested two men carrying two shotguns between last night and this morning. 

Rio Claro police on duty along Ecclesville Road, Rio Claro around 6am, saw a man walking along the roadway.

The 29-year-old man on seeing police tossed an object into the bushes.

On searching the area police found one shot gun with two round of 12-gauge cartridges.

And in a previous case, Eastern Division Task Force members were on patrol along Madoosingh Drive, Northeastern Settlement around 8pm on Wednesday.

They saw a man walking with a plastic bag in his hand.

On seeing police the man began running.

He was held shortly after police chased him and found a homemade shotgun in his possession.

The 33-year-old is from the same area.

Both men will appear before magistrates tomorrow.
