Police destroy $2.6 million in marijuana in St Joseph

Marijuana trees and cured marijuana worth an estimated $2.6 million, were destroyed by officers of the Organised Crime and Intelligence Unit, during a marijuana eradication exercise conducted in the Champ Fleurs district.

The exercise, which included assistance from the St. Joseph Criminal Investigations Department and the Air Support Unit, was conducted between 9 am and 1 pm, on Monday 3rd September, 2018, in the Mt. Dor, Champ Fleurs area.

During the exercise, officers proceeded to a forested area in the district, where they discovered and destroyed four marijuana fields containing 2,680 fully grown marijuana trees, 3.18 kilogrammes of cured marijuana, 700 seedlings, five pounds of marijuana seeds and three camps.

The drug has an estimated street value of $2,631,800. No arrest was made in connection with the find.

This is the second marijuana eradication exercise conducted in the Northern Division in the past week.

On Friday 31st August, 2018, $2Mn in marijuana trees were destroyed at Spring Valley Road, St. Joseph, along with seedlings, fertilizers and five camps.
