Police have destroyed 700 marijuana trees and seized three firearms in raids and searches conducted in Arouca and Cunupia.
Police have issued the following the statement on the matter.
"Around 12.50pm on Sunday 4th September, Supt. Worrell, Sgt. Pitt and a party of officers from the N.D.T.F. area central and K9 Unit went to Dunder Hill Road, Five Rivers, Arouca, relative to information obtained where they found three (3) marijuana fields. An eradication exercise was conducted, where 400 fully grown and 300 small trees were destroyed. One 12 gauge cartridge was also found during the exercise.
At 1:45am today, Monday 5th September, 2016, a search warrant was executed at Murex Street, Bon Air West, Arouca, the home of a 29-year-old, unemployed male for Firearm and Ammunition. One FAL machine gun with a magazine was found and seized and the suspect arrested. Charges were laid by Constable Maharaj of the Northern Division Task force and he is expected to be taken to court on tomorrow Tuesday 6th September, 2016.
Around 2.45am on Saturday 3rd September, 2016, Constables Hosein and Beebakhee of the Cunupia Police Station, along with Cpl. Muralie and Constable James of the RRU, whilst on mobile patrol in the Cunupia District, intercepted a black Nissan B-13 whilst proceeding North along the Southern Main Road, Cunupia. On searching the vehicle, one (1) black and brown coloured Tanfoglio pistol in the vehicle. Three male occupants ages 22, 29 and 37 were detained and are presently assisting the police with other investigations."
