Police kill three suspected bandits

Three men were shot dead af­ter po­lice in­ter­cept­ed them af­ter they com­man­deered a van loaded with over $80,000 in cig­a­rettes along Todd's Road, in Cen­tral Trinidad.

At 10 am on Fri­day, two men held up a sales man at Pa­pa James Cafe, Todds Road. Dur­ing the rob­bery the men dis­armed the se­cu­ri­ty guard of the cafe be­fore es­cap­ing with his gun and a van loaded with cig­a­rettes.

The van was lat­er found aban­doned near La Glo­ria Road.

Po­lice search­ing for the men cor­nered them at a house on Fitt Trace, off Todd's Sta­tion Road.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors said there was a shoot-out dur­ing the con­fronta­tion and three men were fa­tal­ly shot.

A fourth sus­pect was un­hurt and tak­en in­to cus­tody.

One of the dead men iden­ti­fied was Kadeem Welch.

Welch, 22, had 42 out­stand­ing war­rants, and had been to court pre­vi­ous­ly for shoot­ing at po­lice of­fi­cers.

He died 10 days short of his 23rd birth­day.
