A taxi driver is in police custody after abducting and raping a female police officer Monday morning as she left home to provide security at a polling station.
The man is also likely to be charged with attempted murder as police say he also shot at the woman but missed.
According to report, the female police officer had left her home in South Trinidad around 3 am and when she boarded the taxi she was the only passenger.
Police say the man then drove to a gas station and later proceeded in direction away from the polling station.
He took the officer to a secluded area where he raped her at gunpoint.
Police say the woman fought with the assailant and as she ran off, he fired two shots at her and missed.
Police held the suspect late Monday evening.
