Police officer shot in stomach by colleague

A female police officer was shot by her colleague who was cleaning his firearm at the station this morning.

The officer was shot in the stomach.

The incident occurred at around 9 a.m. at the San Juan police station.

The injured female officer was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Centre where she is undergoing emergency medical treatment.

A similar incident occurred at the Guapo police station in 2015.

In that incident special reserve police officer, Govindra Ramroop died.

Ramroop was on duty at the Guapo police station when he was shot in the stomach by his colleague.

A police officer was charged with manslaughter and the case is ongoing at the Point Fortin Magistrates Court.
