Police officers were searching for larceny suspects when they were shot

Police say the two officers who were shot in the Beetham, had gone to search for suspects in the larceny American Stores in St James.

Both officers have been warded in stable condition at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital.

The following is a statement by the Police Service on the incident.

"Two police officers sustained non-life threatening injuries after being struck by bullets while involved in an anti-crime exercise organised by the Western Division, in Hell Yard, Beetham Gardens, Port of Spain, at around 7:20p:m. this evening, Thursday 4th August,2016.

The officers have been identified as 19256 PC Adrian Moreno, who is attached to the Western Division CID and 19860 WPC Rachel George, who is attached to the Western Division Task Force.

PC Moreno suffered a graze to the left side of his head and a wound to his right arm whilst WPC George sustained a bullet wound to her left foot.

Both officers were taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital where they were treated and subsequently warded in a stable condition.

The officers were among a party of officers, who went to the Beetham area in search of suspects in relation to a recent break-in at American Stores, Western Main Road, St James, and the theft of goods valued at $100,000.

DCP Crime and Support (Ag.), Wayne Dick, as well as other senior officers are currently on the scene as investigations continue into this shooting incident."
