The man seen in a recent social media post threatening and abusing a woman is due to appear before a San Fernando Magistrate today charged with wounding with intent and kidnapping against the 19-year-old victim.
Avalon Callender, 31, of Tomato Drive, Diego Martin, was charged with the offences after being arrested by officers of the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) and the San Fernando Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on Thursday 1st November, 2018, in the Gasparillo district.
The victim, a Venezuelan national, was at her home on Tuesday 30th October, 2018, when she got into an altercation with the accused who prevented her from leaving the house and allegedly to beat her about the body, resulting in her receiving multiple injuries.
Video footage of the woman being threatened and abused was subsequently posted to social media.
The victim managed to escape and was taken for medical treatment.
Upon receiving information on the viral social media post, Commissioner of Police Gary Griffith immediately contacted the relevant agencies to launch an investigation into the matter, which resulted in the swift capture of the suspect.
Callender was charged by PC Nicholas Gervais of the San Fernando CID on Sunday 4th November, 2018.
