Pricesmart assistant manager among two charged with $1.5 million robbery

An assistant manager employed with Price Smart Trinidad Ltd, Mausica location, appeared before Arima 2nd Court Magistrate, Debby-Ann Bassaw, charged in the July 3rd ,2016, $1.5Mn robbery at the business place, a statement by the Police Service says.

Kerlon Smith, of No.20 Eventide Court Trincity, had been a Price Smart employee for three years.

Smith, 33, was remanded in custody until July 18th, 2016, and advised by the court to apply to a judge in chamber for bail.

An unemployed man, 22 year old Clinton John, of No.48 Pritzgar Road, San Juan, was charged with a related offence, receiving stolen property (cell phone).

His matter was transferred to the Port of Spain Magistrate Court and postponed to July 19th, 2016.

Head of the Criminal Investigations Department, Snr. Supt Radcliff Boxill, states that whilst two persons have thus far been charged in connection with the robbery other suspects are still at large and therefore the investigation remains active.

Apart from the involvement of CID, officers from the Criminal Gang and Intelligence Unit and the Northern and Eastern Divisions had an active role in the apprehension of the suspects.

The charges were laid by Sgt. Clifton Thomas of the Northern Division CID Area East, under the supervision of Insp. Mark Maharaj, after instructions were received from the Director of Public Prosecution, Roger Gaspard, on Thursday 14th July, 2016.
