Rare bottle of 1940s Caroni Rum attracts high bids on auction website

Would you pay more than $10,000 for a bottle of rum?

An extremely rare bottle of Caroni Navy Rum Extra Strong, is being auctioned on Whisky.Auction and already the price has reached £925 (approx TT$9,000), with an entire week left to bid.

The rum was made in Trinidad and Tobago in the 1940s at the Caroni distillery, which closed in 2002.

That makes the rum around 75 years old.

The alcohol by volume strength is 51.4%.

The seller listed the rum at a reserve price of £500.

The rum was a product of the Tate and Lyle Group, of Mincing Lane, London.
