'Ratty' charged with rape of two UK tourists in Tobago

A 34-year old Trinidadian residing in Tobago is due to appear before the Scarborough Magistrates’ Court today after being charged with the kidnapping, robbery and sexual assault of two United Kingdom tourists.

Artherly ‘Ratty’ Fraser of Canaan, was charged with two counts of rape, two counts of grievous sexual assault, two counts of kidnapping and two counts of robbery, on Thursday 14th March, 2019.

Fraser was charged following a report made by two female tourists to the Shirvan Road Police Station on Monday 11th March, 2019.

The charges arose from an incident which allegedly occurred at 1:30 am on the same date the report was made.

The victims, who were participating in festivities at the weekly ‘Sunday School’ event in Buccoo, had hired a private driver to return to the guest house they were staying at in Black Rock.

While en route to their destination, the driver stopped along Grafton Beach, and proceeded to rape, sexually assault and rob the women of their cellphones, before escaping in his vehicle.

An investigation was immediately launched into the matter and resulted in Fraser being arrested at his home at 7 am on Tuesday 12th March, 2019, by officers of the Scarborough Criminal Investigations Department.

Charges were laid by WPC Phillip-Radix of the Shirvan Road Police Station.
