Restored cenotaph handed over to Defence Force

The cenotaph at Memorial Square has been handed over the Defence Force, following a project to restore it to its original colour.

The handing-over ceremony took place this morning at the square.

In the photograph, taken by Guardian Media's Robert Codallo, Port-of-Spain Mayor Joel Martinez holds a plaque presented to him by Chief of Defence Staff, Rear Admiral Hayden Prichard, after the handing over.

At right is British High Commissioner, Tim Stew.

The world recognises Armistice Day (Memorial Day in T&T) on Sunday.

It commemorates the lives of those who lost their lives in both World War I and World War II.

Sunday also marks exactly 100 years since the signing of the Armistice that ended World War 1, on November 11, 1918.
