San Juan man charged with murder of Morvant man

A San Juan man is expected to appear before a Port of Spain Magistrate today, charged with the murder of Jonathan Charles, which occurred on Saturday 12th May, 2018.

Marvin Valdez aka ‘Tanto’, 34, a labourer, of Febeau Village, was charged with murder, following advice received from Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions, Tricia Hudlin-Cooper, on Sunday 17th June, 2018.

Charles, 27, of Mora Road, Morvant, was standing with a group of friends outside a Chinese restaurant in Morvant, on Friday 11th May, 2018, when he got into an altercation with a man whom he knows, over the contents of a bottle of alcohol.

During the incident, he sustained a stab wound to the neck and was taken to hospital, where he died, the next day, on Saturday 12th May, 2018.

Investigations were supervised by Insp. Shaun Craig, Sgt. Anil Maharaj and W/Sgt. Belinda Sylvester, of Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI) 2, while Vialva was charged by PC Denver Callender, also of HBI 2, on Sunday 17th June, 2018.
