San Juan teen to appear in court charged with murder

Othnael Hyndman, a former security guard is expected to appear before the Port of Spain 8th Magistrates’ Court today, charged with murder and robbery with violence against Matthew James, which occurred on January 27th. 

Hyndman, 18, of San Juan, was charged with the offences, following advice received from Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard SC, on February 4th.

According to police reports, the partially burnt body of Mr James, 27, a security guard, of Upper Santa Cruz, was discovered by police on January 27th at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain. 

The victim’s body also bore two stab wounds to the neck.

Investigations were supervised by W/ASP Suzette Martin, of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI), Region 1, and resulted in Hyndman subsequently being arrested in connection with the incident. The accused was charged by PC Aaron Subiah, also of HBI Region 1, on January 4th.
