The Ministry of Social Development and Family Services has distributed temporary food cards and clothing items to five fire victims whose homes were recently destroyed by fire, a statement by the Ministry says.
The fire which took place on New Year’s morning at Building 55-57, Nelson Street, Port-of-Spain left 15 residents’ homeless and one person dead.
The statement says that the families were also advised of other grants and social support services available to them from the Ministry including psychosocial support and counselling from the National Family Services Division.
The fire, caused by an alleged fireworks war between residents of Nelson Street and Mango Rose, East Dry River, claimed the life of 37-year-old Jameel Allamby, 37, who used a wheelchair.
