A suspended soldier turn robber was shot dead by police as a suspect in the robbery and murder of an SRP serving as a security guard at a Boundary Road liquor mart.
The daring robbery at the liquor mart left a Special Reserve Police officer and part-time security guard, Cleavon Frederick dead.
Police reports indicate that that three men entered the liquor mart and announced a hold-up.
Frederick was shot in the head.
The men then made their escape in a white Nissan Tiida vehicle.
The security officer was rushed to hospital but died on arrival..
However, some fast-acting police work by officers of the Central Police division and the Operations Unit, resulted in the intercept of the vehicle with three suspects in the Caroni area around 10am.
A shootout ensued between the suspected bandits and the police.
One of the suspects, identified as Vernon Simon, a suspended member of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force who was suspended last year, was killed.
The two other suspects aged 35 and 45 were arrested.
The men are alleged to be from the Kelly Village area.
A fourth suspect was held close to the crime scene.
