Three men in police custody after attempting to steal backhoe

Two men have been arrested and a third has turned himself over to police, following a report of an attempted robbery of a backhoe by 56- year-old Gulf View man. 

According to police reports, the incident occurred yesterday afternoon, in the Cocoyea district. 

The victim told police that he went to St. Andrews Park, Cocoyea, on October 7th  where his JCB backhoe was parked and observed four men attempting to load the vehicle onto a flatbed truck. 

The victim raised an alarm, and two of the men escaped in the truck while the other two fled the scene in red Ford Ranger motor vehicle.

A report was made and officers of the Mon Repos Police Station and the Rapid Response Unit intercepted the Ford Ranger with two male occupants in the Gasparillo district. 

The suspects; a 47-year-old man and his 36-year-old cousin, both of Farnum Village, Williamsville, were arrested in connection with the incident. 

A third suspect; a 28-year-old Ste. Madeleine man subsequently turned himself in to the Mon Repos Police Station last night. 

Investigations are ongoing.
