Three prison officers arrested trying to enter prisons with contraband items

Three prison officers have been arrested while attempting to enter the Maximum Security Prison and Golden Grove Prison in Arouca with contraband items.

The Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service says that on Thursday 29 March, 2018 before 6:30 am, quantities of illegal items including narcotics, and paraphernalia were found.

These items were found in the possession of three prisons officers who were attempting to enter the prison compound with contraband items.

The officers, two at the Golden Grove Prison and one at Maximum Security Prison have been detained and an in-depth investigation has been launched.

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service has been called in and charges are expected to be laid against them.

The Prison Service says the action signals a response to the call by the Commissioner of Prisons for the tightening and heightening of security at the nation’s prisons.

It is assuring members of the public that it holds its mandate of protecting society in high esteem, and is working diligently to ensure reduction and prevention of criminal activities.
