Trade unions suspend participation in Tripartite Advisory Council over Govt's approach to TDC

The Trade Union Movement has taken a decision to immediately suspend its participation in any meetings called by National Tripartite Advisory Council (NTAC).

A statement by the General Secretary of the National Trade Union Centre (NATUC), Michael Annisette says the decision has its genesis in the fact that the Minister of Tourism, Shamfa Cudjoe chose to inform the Communication Workers’ Union (CWU) who are the representatives for the Tourism Development Company (TDC) workers via telephone of Cabinet’s decision to dissolve the TDC and replace it with two separate entities.

The statement says the fact that no consultation was held with the CWU demonstrates "an insensitivity and disrespect to the Trade Union Movement and the workers of TDC and has no place in a democratic society".

The Trade Union Movement intends to express its views further at a news conference on Wednesday.
