A Trinidad and Tobago resident has been charged in the British Virgin Islands for possession of marijuana.

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force has identified the female accused as Desiree Creque, 20.

A 17-year-old resident of Shepherd Hill on Tortola was also charged for the same offence.

Reports are that Creque and the minor were in a vehicle on the eastern end of Tortola when police, who were on patrol, signaled them to stop.

The officers searched the vehicle in which they were travelling, and reportedly found various zip-lock bags with marijuana.

Creque reportedly denied knowledge of the illegal substance found in the vehicle, but further checks allegedly resulted in the discovery of a portion of marijuana in a bag belonging to her.

Both occupants of the vehicle were taken to the East End Police Station where they were arrested and charged on August 4.

They are yet to appear in court to answer to the charge.
