T&T national confirmed killed by Hurricane Irma in St Maarten

A Trinidad and Tobago national is among those killed by Hurricane Irma in St Maarten.

She has been identified as Milan Salvary.

A statement by the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs confirmed the death this afternoon.

"The Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs has late this afternoon been advised by relatives of Milan Salvary, that they have received information confirming her death during the passage of Hurricane Irma. The Ministry has been advised that Ms. Salvary frequently visited her daughter who lives in St. Maarten.  Unfortunately, Ms. Salvary died, during the hurricane, while attempting to relocate from the house at which she was staying," the statement said.

The statement went on to state that the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, on behalf of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago, takes this opportunity to extend heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Ms. Milan Salvary.

The death toll from Hurricane Irma has reached 55, with 37 deaths in the Caribbean, 12 in Florida, four deaths in South Carolina, and two deaths in Georgia.
