T&T powerlifter smashes two world records

Trinidad and Tobago powerlifter and world record holder, Rondel Hunte, has broken another two world records as he dominated the stage and executed a world champion performance at yesterday’s showing at the 2018 IPF Raw (Unequipped) World Powerlifting Championships in Calgary, Canada.

Posting lifts of 213.5kg and 883.5kg, Hunte broke both the Bench Press and Total World Records respectively in the Men’s Junior 105kg weight class, continuing his record-breaking performance from last years’ North American Powerlifting Championships.

Competing against fellow powerlifters from USA, Canada, Algeria, Finland to name a few, Hunte also created history for T&T when he lifted his way to earn four gold medals for the twin island.

He won the Best Squat (330.0kg), Bench Press (213.5kg), Deadlift (340.0kg) and Total (883.5kg).

He also broke several National Powerlifting records in the process.

Competing in his first World Championship, debutant and National Champion Kiran Tooleran also represented the red, white and black earlier in the day.

Kiran was the youngest lifter in the Men’s Junior 83kg weight class.

His efforts saw him placing 9th posting lifts of Squat 202.5kg, Bemch Press 102.5kg, Deadlift 230.0kg and Total 535.0kg.

The World Championship runs from June 6th to 17th, 2018.
