Two persons were arrested and several firearms were seized during a police exercise today. The following is the full press release:
"Officers of the Eastern Division seized cocaine, marijuana and several guns and arrested 2 persons in connection with the drug find and possession of a firearm during an exercise today, Thursday 15th September, 2016.
Officers seized one glock pistol, two revolvers, 51 rounds of assorted ammunition, including 9mm, .38, .40 and .45. and 1.5 kilograms of cocaine and 464 grams of marijuana with a combined street value of $59, 104.00 at around 4:00am this morning after they executed a warrant at a house located at Quash Trace Sangre Grande.
A 47-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman were both arrested and charged for possession of firearms, possession of ammunition, possession of marijuana and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
The exercise was spearheaded by Snr. Supt. (Ag.) John Trimm, supervised by Supt. Robert Phillip and included Sgt. Mikey Williams and officers of the Eastern Division Task Force.
Today’s operation follows another exercise which occurred yesterday, Wednesday 14th September, 2016, when officers of the Sangre Grande Crime Suppression Unit discovered and seized a homemade shotgun with one 16 gauge cartridge, after intercepting a silver B14 motor vehicle in Vega De Oropouche, Sangre Grande.
The 27-year-old driver was arrested and is assisting police with other investigations.
Today’s haul brings the number of illegal firearms seized by Eastern Division to 35, surpassing the amount discovered for the comparative period in 2015 by 9."
